Tournament play is an important part of player development. Tournaments are used to showcase talent, develop players, challenge & reward advanced players, provide team bonding opportunities and much more. Parents are require to keep up with the upcoming tournament schedule and stay ahead of tournament registration deadlines so BFC staff can appropriately register teams to events throughout each season.
All tournaments can be classified into (2) two major categories: Invitational or Restricted / Selective.
BUFFALOS FC DEFINITIONS: TOURNAMENT TYPES
Club Tournament: All players are encouraged to attend - we will try to form as many "teams" as possible
Optional Tournament: Open Registration for all players and BFC Staff will invite players to form "Tournament Teams" for development and to challenge our advanced players.
Qualification Tournament: This is when a "team" qualifies for play in an event. Example: STYSA Tournaments you will start at the District Play Level and teams can advance to the STATE Finals. If the team advances it is required all players pay player fee no matter if they play or not, due to rosters cannot be changed or modified.
Special Invite Event: These events are restricted to only players invited by BFC Staff. These events can be local and can require travel. BFC Staff uses these events to challenge our advanced players.
Showcase Tournament: This is for the our High School players, these events showcase talent for college coaches; players will play in 2-3 games with no advancement or trophy - play only. College coaches are in attendance and players need to make sure they invite the colleges or universities they are interested before they attend these events. Showcase events can take 3-4 months of planning and preparation; registration deadlines for these events typically are 3-6 months in advance.
Qualification Tournament Disclosure: Buffalos FC reserves the right to appropriately apply a tournament player fee to a player's account if the team participates in the event when BFC is required to only use the team's official roster when adding Guest Players and/or Club Pass Players is not allowed. All players on the official roster are required to pay the tournament fee, weather the player participates or not.
Player Added to a Tournament Roster without Properly Registering: Buffalos FC reserves the right to appropriately apply a tournament player fee to a player's account.
REFUNDS: Refunds will be issued all players who do not participate in the tournament. Players who want to cancel their registration after the tournament rosters are locked will not be granted a refund. *Players interested in playing in the tournament events should be committed before they complete the tournament registration. *If there was an extenuating circumstance, the DOC can override this policy.
Tournament Teams may be formed during the seasonal year, when the tournament does not require teams use their State roster. Director of Coaching approves all tournament teams, players are selected by age and talent level to form a tournament team to participate in a particular event.
This occurs when a registered STYSA player plays in a tournament for a BFC team, and that player is not part of the BFC, they are registered with a different club or association. Players interested in Guest Playing for a Buffalos FC Team, please contact BFC Director of Coaching.
These tournaments are played using a team’s official state roster. I.E. any tournament STYSA (South Texas Youth Soccer Association), WDDOA (Western District Division One Association) or AAYSA (Alamo Area Youth Soccer Association) puts on.
This is a tournament that determines team's eligibility for a selective / restrictive event. Some qualifying tournaments can use to place teams in leagues and some qualifying tournaments are used to determine eligibility for a higher level tournament or special event.
College Showcase or Showcase Tournament means that college coaches are invited to attend to watch and recruit players. This does not mean college coaches don’t attend other tournaments, but college showcase tournaments cater to college coaching staff, which means more of them attend these types of events.
College Showcase events are an essential tool to help players get to the collegiate level. College Showcases should be a PRIORITY for any player wishing play at the collegiate level. Most events will require travel and players may even need to miss school to attend these events; letters will be provided so players are excused from school and/or high school soccer training/scrimmages/games.
College Showcases are for our High School players, these events showcase talent for college coaches; players will play in 2-3 games with no advancement or trophy - play only. College coaches are in attendance and players need to make sure they invite the colleges or universities they are interested before they attend these events.
